Burning of Jews does not surprise me. Most Indian Christian denominations practice some form of antisemitism either with a ceremony like the one described here or in their prayer books where Jews are shown in poor light. It is quite unfortunate and not in keeping with the fundamental understanding of Christianity. Jesus in his last message from the cross said words to the effect that his killers assuming that they were only Jews may be forgiven for they do not know what they are doing. Since Jesus was crucified it cannot be automatically assumed that Jews were solely responsible for his crucifixion. A purely Jewish court would have condemned him to death by stoning that is the Jewish custom. Bible records the death of Stephan who accepted Christianity soon after Jesus time by stoning. Crucifixion is a Roman practice of that time. Therefore Jews were instrumental only indirectly as it were. I believe that this latent antisemitic practice needs to be dispensed with. After all the present form of Judaism and Christianity are like twins having been founded at around the same time in ancient Palestine.
I would also like to mention about the inquisition by the RC church (1560-1812-A.K.Priolkar “The Goan Inquisition” The Terrible Tribunal for the East) in Goa and Keralam. In Goa this was primarily against the Jews who had sought asylum there from Europe. In Keralam it was aimed at everybody who was not a Roman Catholic and this included the then flourishing non RC Christian community who were followers of St. Thomas.
The attitude of inquisition does not auger well for the Christians of India.
